BEAM DYNAMICS ISSUES in LINEAR COLLIDERS
نویسنده
چکیده
The primary goal of present and future linear colliders is to maximize the integrated luminosity for the experimental program. Beam dynamics plays a central role in the maximization of integrated luminosity. It is the major issue in the production of small beam sizes and low experimental backgrounds and is also an important factor in the production of particle numbers, in the acceleration process, and in the number of bunches. The beam dynamics effects on bunches which are extracted from the damping rings, accelerated in the linac, collimated, -momentum analyzed, and finally delivered to the final focus are reviewed. The effects of bunch compression, transverse and longiludinal wakefields, BNS damping, energy definition, dispersion, emittance, bunch aspec1 ratio, feedback, and stability are all important.

Beam Dynamics Issues for Linear Colliders
In this paper we discuss various beam dynamics issues for linear col-liders. The emphasis is to explore beam dynamics effects which lead to an effective dilution of the emittance of the beam and thus to a loss of luminos-ity. These considerations lead to various tolerances which are evaluated for a particular parameter set.
متن کاملCrab-cavity Beam Dynamics Issues for an Lhc Upgrade
Modern colliders bring into collision a large number of bunches per pulse or per turn to achieve a high luminosity. The long-range beam-beam effects arising from parasitic encounters at such colliders are mitigated by introducing a crossing angle. Under these conditions, crab cavities can be used to restore effective head-on collisions and thereby to increase the geometric luminosity. Crab cavi...
متن کاملDamping Ring to Interaction Point Beam Transport Issues
One of the major challenges facing the proposed highenergy linear ee colliders is the preservation of the extremely small vertical emittance from the damping rings to the interaction point (IP). This emittance must be transported through bunch compression sections, the main linac and finally through the beam delivery system to the IP. Historically, the beam dynamics issues of each subsystem hav...

.In this paper, we discuss some basic beam dynamics issues related to obtaining and preserving the luminosity of a next generation linear collider. In Figure 1 you see a diagram illustrating the main subsystems of one-half of the collider. The beams are extracted from a damping ring and compressed in length by the first bunch compressor. They are then accelerated in a preaccelerator linac up to...
متن کاملFurther Developments in Dynamic Focusing
Dynamic focusing has been proposed[1] as a way to eliminate a conventional collimation and final focus system in linear colliders, and is a scheme that is more readily extended to colliders at several TeV center-of-mass energy. In this paper we examine several outstanding issues, in particular, the optimization of the lens and main beam parameters. Simulations of the lens-lens, lens-main, and m...
